Measuring method for emissions in road tunnel systems

چکیده
Protection against dangerous emissions is important in every context where combustion occurs and where there is a risk of people coming in contact with exhaust gases. It is furthermore the intention that people will be present in certain surroundings, such as road tunnels, mines and garages, and therefore will also be inhaling the emitted exhaust gases – in this case coming from vehicles and machines. It is extremely important to monitor continuously, ventilate and, should the occasion arise, sound an alarm when prescribed limits for toxic substances are exceeded and there is a risk to life and health.

Quantifying on-road emissions from gasoline-powered motor vehicles: accounting for the presence of medium- and heavy-duty diesel trucks.
Vehicle emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), fine particulate matter (PM2.5), organic aerosol (OA), and black carbon (BC) were measured at the Caldecott tunnel in the San Francisco Bay Area. Measurements were made in bore 2 of the tunnel, where light-duty (LD) vehicles accounted for >99% of total traffic and heavy-duty trucks were not allowed. Prior emission studies conduct...
متن کاملA randomised cross-over cohort study of exposure to emissions from a road tunnel ventilation stack
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Road tunnels are increasingly important components of urban infrastructure. However, knowledge of their health impact on surrounding communities is limited. Our objective was to estimate the short-term respiratory health effects of exposure to emissions from a road tunnel ventilation stack. METHODS We conducted a randomised cross-over cohort study in 36 volunteers who...
متن کاملSize and composition of particulate emissions from motor vehicles in the Kaisermühlen-Tunnel, Vienna
Size segregated emissions of particle-phase species from on-road motor vehicles were investigated in the Kaisermühlen Tunnel (Vienna, Austria) during April and May 2005. Emission factors were calculated from concentration differences between tunnel inside and tunnel outside samples, the distance between tunnel entrance and sampling location, the ventilation rate and the number of vehicles passi...
متن کاملMultispecies remote sensing measurements of vehicle emissions on Sherman Way in Van Nuys, California.
UNLABELLED As part of the 2010 Van Nuys tunnel study, researchers from the University of Denver measured on-road fuel-specific light-duty vehicle emissions from nearly 13,000 vehicles on Sherman Way (0.4 miles west of the tunnel) in Van Nuys, California, with its multispecies Fuel Efficiency Automobile Test (FEAT) remote sensor a week ahead of the tunnel measurements. The remote sensing mean gr...
متن کاملEthylene glycol emissions from on-road vehicles.
Ethylene glycol (HOCH2CH2OH), used as engine coolant for most on-road vehicles, is an intermediate volatility organic compound (IVOC) with a high Henry's law coefficient. We present measurements of ethylene glycol (EG) vapor in the Caldecott Tunnel near San Francisco, using a proton transfer reaction mass spectrometer (PTR-MS). Ethylene glycol was detected at mass-to-charge ratio 45, usually in...
